Retail Store Elevations: ACP Shop Fronts & Glazing

A storefront that stops shoppers on the pavement.

Technically reviewed by Er. Sanjay M. & Er. Aravind M.Civil Engineers, CIT Coimbatore · 10+ years in facades · Reviewed 7 Oct 2026

ACP-clad elevations, large glazed storefronts and signage fascias that make a retail store recognisable from the street and inviting at the entrance.

In retail, the shop front is the hardest-working advertisement you own. Shoppers decide within seconds whether a store looks worth stepping into, and that decision is shaped by the elevation: the signage, the clarity of the glass and how well the merchandise is lit behind it. Cladex Elevations designs and installs ACP shop front elevations and glazed storefronts that make stores in Tamil Nadu and Kerala stand out on crowded high streets, in market roads and along highway stretches.

Our work suits national chains rolling out a standard look as well as independent showrooms creating their own identity. For chains, we follow the brand's elevation drawings closely so that each outlet matches the last. For independent textile, jewellery, footwear or electronics stores, we help translate an idea into a buildable shop front design, combining ACP colours, signage zones and glass in proportions that suit the building. Over more than ten years, our team has worked with many brands across Tamil Nadu.

A shop front in an Indian town faces a tough life: dust from the road, harsh afternoon sun, heavy monsoon downpours and constant handling of doors and shutters. We detail joints, drips and sealant lines with this in mind, and choose toughened safety glass for every storefront panel and door. Message us on WhatsApp with a photo of your building, and our engineers will visit, measure the frontage and send a free, site-measured quote.

What matters

What a retail store facade must deliver

01

Street-level visibility

Clear glass, well-placed signage and a strong elevation help a store register with shoppers walking or driving past, even when neighbouring shops compete for the same attention.

02

Consistency across outlets

Retail chains need every branch to look the same. That means matching ACP shades, signage heights and glazing proportions to an approved standard, outlet after outlet.

03

Safe, secure glazing

Storefront glass is handled by crowds and children every day. It must be toughened safety glass, properly framed or fixed, with visible markings so nobody walks into a clear panel.

04

Low maintenance on dusty roads

Smooth ACP surfaces with a durable coating, plus drip details that shed rainwater cleanly, keep the elevation looking fresh with simple periodic washing instead of repainting.

Case study

Zudio Store

Trichy Road, Singanallur, Coimbatore

This Zudio store on Trichy Road is a standalone building wrapped in silver-grey ACP, from the columns and horizontal bands to the edge of the gently sloping roofline. The front is opened up with two tiers of large glazed panels set into the ACP grid, so the racks, mannequins and lighting inside are visible from the road. Illuminated Zudio lettering in English and Tamil sits across the glazing, and after dark the lit interior turns the entire frontage into a shop window.

Planning a shop front elevation for an Indian high street

A good shop front elevation design starts with how people actually approach the store. On a narrow market road, shoppers see the front almost straight on, so the signage and window display must work at close range. On a highway or a wide main road, the elevation is seen at an angle and from a distance, so a tall fascia, strong ACP colour blocks and a large glass area matter more. We look at both before suggesting proportions.

Small shop fronts benefit from simplicity: one clear signage band, generous glass and a contrasting ACP frame are usually more effective than many colours and textures crowded into a narrow width. Larger standalone stores can use the ACP to wrap the whole building and break up long frontages with glazed bays. In every case, we leave space for the shutter box, air-conditioning units and any landlord signage, so these items do not spoil the finished front.

Getting the ACP and glass details right

Most problems on shop fronts show up at the junctions. We fix ACP on a properly levelled aluminium sub-frame so panels stay flat, keep consistent groove widths between panels, and seal joints with weather-resistant sealant so rain does not track behind the cladding. Top edges get capping or a slight slope so water runs off instead of streaking down the face, which is one of the most common reasons a shop front looks dirty within months.

On the glazing side, we use toughened safety glass for every panel within reach of the public, and size fixed panels and doors to suit how the store will be used. Large clear panels are given manifestation, such as a frosted band or brand graphics at eye level, so they are visible to people walking towards them. Door hardware is chosen for heavy daily use, since entrance doors are the most-handled part of any retail facade.

FAQ

Retail Stores: common questions

What is the best material for a shop front elevation?

For most retail stores, a combination of ACP and toughened glass works best. ACP gives a smooth, durable surface for signage and brand colours, is light enough for existing buildings, and needs only periodic washing. Toughened glass opens up the display. The right balance depends on the frontage width, the merchandise and how far away shoppers will see the store from.

Can you clad an existing shop building with ACP?

Yes. ACP is usually fixed on an aluminium sub-frame anchored to the existing wall or structure, so an older building can be given a new front without major demolition. Our engineers first check the condition of the existing wall and parapet, then plan the frame so the new panels sit flat and the joints stay weather-tight.

Is toughened glass necessary for a shop front?

It is strongly recommended. Toughened glass is several times stronger than ordinary float glass of the same thickness, and if it does break it shatters into small, blunt pieces rather than long sharp shards. For a shop front that is touched, leaned on and passed by crowds every day, that safety margin is essential.

Can my signage be integrated into the ACP elevation?

Yes. We plan the signage zone as part of the elevation, with a rigid ACP background, concealed fixing points and routes for the wiring. Letters can be mounted on the face of the fascia, and some designs route logos or patterns directly into the ACP. Planning this upfront avoids cutting finished panels later.

How do I get a quote for my store's shop front?

Send us a few photos of your building and any drawings on WhatsApp. Our engineers will discuss the look you want, visit the site to take accurate measurements, and send a free quote based on the actual frontage. We serve retail stores across Tamil Nadu and Kerala from our two offices in Coimbatore.
